Carroll Wayne Gordy's Obituary
Carroll Wayne Gordy,79, passed away on February 15th, 2023, at his home in Exline.
Carroll was born April 30,1943 to Glen and Iris (Bowling) Gordy in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was raised in Bloomfield and graduated from Davis County High School with the class of 1961. On March 9, 1974, he was united in marriage to Darlene Joy Gordy in Unionville, MO.
Carroll began his career working for a local creamery. He then later worked for Coca Cola, Hiland Potato Chip Company and for several years as a route salesman for Frito Lay before retiring in 2010. After retirement from Frito Lay, he delivered bakery goods and prescriptions for Hy-Vee.
He enjoyed attending auctions with Joy, visiting garden centers and greenhouses, and spent many hours helping Joy tend to their beautiful yard and landscaping. He enjoyed reading, especially his daily newspapers, and spending time with his grandsons. Carroll was a great caretaker of his beloved wife Joy during her battle with cancer.
Carroll loved visiting with people and could often be found shooting the breeze at all the local grocery stores and gas stations. He had friends wherever he went and always kept up with all the latest news.
Survivors include his son, Jack Briggs and his wife Melanie of Albia; his grandsons, Zachary Briggs of Centerville and Jacob Briggs of Albia; his son, Craig Gordy and his wife Kandi, and their children, Clayton, Brandyn, Aleta, Gage, Tony and Austin; his daughter Jodi Overturf and her husband Jason, and their children Holli, Kylie, Glenn and Tressa; great grandson, Jude and a brother, Gary Gordy of Kahoka, MO.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Gordy on December 19, 2022, his parents, Glen and Iris Gordy and many good friends and neighbors.
A celebration of Life will be held at 10:30AM, Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 4-7PM. Inurnment will follow at the Exline Cemetery.
