Carolyn Marie Van Van Dorin's Obituary
Carolyn Marie Van Dorin, age 87, of Moravia, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa.
She was born October 5, 1927 near Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of Mearl and Blanche (Miner) Walter. Carolyn graduated from Moravia High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to William Sylvan Van Dorin at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia, Iowa on April 28, 1946. They were blessed with three children, Marie, Deborah, and Annette. Sylvan passed away on December 30, 2000.
Following high school, Carolyn worked for a brief period of time as a seamstress for Madden's in Ottumwa, Iowa. She later became a homemaker and in 1961, along with her husband, became a co-owner of Van Dorin Implement in Moravia. Sylvan and Carolyn owned and operated their business for thirty three years, retiring in 1994.
In Carolyn's free time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, crafts, and cake decorating. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Carolyn was also a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and Moravia Booster Club. She was also active in the Moravia Fall Festival throughout her lifetime.
Carolyn is survived by her three children, Marie (Denny) Baughman of Unionville, Missouri, Deborah Gaither of Moravia, Iowa, and Annette (Patrick) Mullins of Skidmore, Missouri; three grandchildren, Megan (Darin) Lunsford of Green City, Missouri, Erin and Rachel Mullins both of Skidmore, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Brody and Kasey Lunsford both of Green City, Missouri; two sisters, Maxine Simmons of Knox, Indiana, and Annabelle Wilson of Paducah, Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Marvin Gardner of Moravia, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Cleo Love of Albia, Iowa and Berniece Hinton of Moravia, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Loren ""Bud"" Walter, Aubrey ""Short"" Walter, Maurice ""Friz"" Walter, and Mearl Dean Walter; and three sisters, Zola Walter, Oraleta Walter, and Eloise Gardner; and a son-in-law, John Gaither.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa, with Reverend Cindy Finn officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia from 10 AM-8 PM, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. Memorials have been established to either the Grace United Methodist Fellowship Hall Audio/Visual System or to the Moravia Fire Department and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home.
