Carolyn Maye Baker's Obituary
Carolyn Maye Baker, age 91, of Centerville passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
Carolyn was born to Earl & Freda (Battistone) Hopkins on April 12, 1932 in Rathbun, Iowa. She received her education from Moravia High School, graduating with the Class of 1951. On August 11, 1961, Carolyn was united in marriage to Irvin William "Bill" Baker in Seymour. To this union, four children were born, David, Dennis, Paul, and Michael.
Carolyn was a homemaker. She worked for a period of time at Sylvania in Centerville and at St. Joseph Hospital in Centerville in the kitchen. She spent several years donating her time in the kitchen at the 18-80 Club in Centerville. Carolyn enjoyed fishing and traveling on the 18-80 Club trips with Bill. She also loved watching Iowa and Iowa State football and basketball games.
Left to cherish Carolyn's memory are her husband of 62 years, Bill Baker; her children, Dennis (Denise) Baker, Paul (Lisa) Baker and Michael (Theresa) Baker; her twin sister, Marolyn Kaster; 12 grandchildren, Travis (Ericka) Ashby, Michelea (Joe) Mikels, Amanda (Jared) Hraha, Chelsey (Quadare) Baker, Jessica (John) Baker, Rachelle, Brittany, Krystal, Alisha, Amber Essary, Jenine Conway, and Jessica Mozo; ten great grandchildren, Eriney, Hayden, Nolan, Kenzi, Emily, Alex, Bodie, Brady, Emmalyn, Aurora; as well as several extended family and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Freda Hopkins; her son, David Baker; her siblings, Bob Hopkins, Bill Hopkins and Don Hopkins; her in-laws, Mary Stufflebeem, Zelda Baker and Don Kaster; as well as extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Carolyn will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Tom Reed officiating. Burial will follow the service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
