Carl Phillip Zotz Jr.'s Obituary
Carl Phillip Zotz Jr., age 81, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by his children.
Carl was born on July 12, 1938 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Carl Phillip Zotz Sr., and Armenta (Owens) Zotz.
On August 16, 1955, Carl enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea for almost 16 months, after the Korean war. Carl served his country faithfully for four years, and was honorably discharged on September 1, 1961. During this time, he was united in marriage to June Ann Berube on November 28, 1959. To this union, four children were born, Debra, Tina, Lorie Ann, and Carl III.
Following his military service, Carl worked for Micks Furniture in Albia, as a Plumber. He then began his own business, Zotz Plumbing and Heating in Centerville, and operated it for many years. He was a long-time member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville. Following his retirement from the Plumbing and Heating business, Carl was the handyman/maintenance/groundskeeper for the St. Marys Catholic Church and school in Centerville for several years.
Carl enjoyed fishing and raising rabbits. His favorite hobby was woodworking. He loved making furniture, toys, as well as many other items for his friends and loved ones. Carl was extremely fond of spending time with his best friend, his dog, Patches, and all of his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter.
Left to honor Carls memory are his children, Debra (Larry) Seddon of Centerville, Tina (Max) Henshaw of Centerville, Lorie Ann (Kent) Webb of Ankeny, and Carl Phillip Zotz III of Centerville; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Mara) Zotz, Ryan Henshaw, Chase Webb, Cory Webb, Dustin (Samantha Micetich) Zotz, Brayden Zotz, Tanner Zotz, and Tarrin Zotz; one great granddaughter, Amelia May Zotz; and five siblings, Alice Davis of Albia, Pat Datin of Albia, Marilyn Fulton of Iowa City, Janet Summers of Albia, and Mike (Donna) Zotz of Afton, Iowa.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, June Ann Zotz; his parents, Armenta and Carl Phillip Zotz Sr.; a sister, Mary Zotz; a daughter in law, Stephanie (Keep) Zotz; and a grandchild, Johnathan Webb.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Monday, December 16, 2019 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 12-4 PM, with the family greeting friends from 2-4PM. A Rosary will be conducted at 4PM on Sunday at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Memorials have been designated to the Zotz family, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
