Carl Edward West's Obituary
Carl Edward West, 86, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, April 16th, 2026.
Carl West was born in Des Moines, IA on May 8th, 1939, the son of Garnett and Effie West. After graduation, Carl joined the Army and served in the Reserves. On May 27, 1960, Carl married Sandra Byers in Bondurant, Iowa, and two sons were born to this union. Carl gave 29 years of dedicated service to Titan Tire, taking pride in his work and the people he worked alongside. In 2001 Carl and Sandra moved to Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, MO. They started out in a camper before they built their home on the lake. Carl loved hunting and golfing, but fishing was his favorite. Carl played cards with his men's group for years enjoying their company. Carl was a member of the Unionville Methodist Church and endured many physical struggles towards the end. Even with challenges, Carl stayed positive and never gave up, even playing cards with his family a week before his passing. Carl will be greatly missed.
Carl is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home and their two sons, Greg West of Unionville, MO and Scott West and wife Jolynn of Des Moines, IA. Carl's surviving grandchildren are Alicia Penton and husband Will of Stuart, IA; Scott West of Winterset, IA; and Kenzie Rank and husband Steven of Parkville, MO. Carl is also survived by his great grandchildren, Jackson, Brooklyn, Kai, Lydia, Chloe, and Claire.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a grandson, Cole West and 2 brothers, Bob West and Merle West.
Funeral Services for Carl will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026 @ 11:00 am at the Unionville Methodist Church in Unionville, MO. Visitation will be one hour prior, from 10:00 - 11:00 am, at the Unionville Methodist Church as well. Burial will follow at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials in Carl's honor may be made payable to the Unionville Methodist Church and entrusted to the Thomas Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
