Burl Klinger's Obituary
Burl Klinger, 92, of Corydon passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Wayne County Hospital. Burl was born to John & Nina (Palmer) Klinger in Harvard, Iowa on August 16, 1925. He received his education from a country school in Jackson Township and graduated in Allerton in 1943. At age 19 (1944), Burl was drafted into the Army during World War II where he served as a lineman installing telephone poles in the Philippine jungles for two and a half years. On July 20, 1947, Burl was united in marriage to Lorine Holmes. In this union came three children: Joan, Jean and Lori. Burl and Lorine lived and farmed south of Corydon in Jackson Township. In 1978, the two purchased the East Side Grocery Store in Corydon while still farming. After retirement, Burl and Lorine started the Klinger Saw Horse, while also trimming out 199 homes for Iowa Manufactured Homes. His last place of employment was Wal-Mart in Centerville where he worked for over 15 years. Burl enjoyed woodworking and making items for his grandchildren. In Burl's later years he got a kick out of his monthly jam sessions with his close companion Lucile Buoy. Burl also loved the holidays and events when friends and family surrounded him. He loved bringing a smile to a child's face, especially when dressing up as Santa. Survivors include his daughters: Joan Klinger, Jean Guikema (Bob), Lori Armstrong (Steve), grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul), Ryan (Jenny), Jessica (Tory), Rena (Jimmy), Terri (Kasey) Heather (Mike), great grandchildren: Cale, Marissa, Logan, Heath, Oliver, Amelia, Karley, Kedrick, Zander, Safara and Khaleesi. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lorine. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment with military rites will take place at Shriver Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
