Bryan McClurg's Obituary
Bryan Leroy McClurg, 61, a lifelong resident of Exline, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013, in Centerville, from complications of melanoma which metastasized to his bones. Born on December 7, 1951, he was the son of Robert and Idalee (Exline) McClurg of Centerville, who survive. He also is survived by four children, Jeff McClurg (Heather) of Centerville, Pat McClurg of Centerville, Brendan McClurg of Ames, and Kiaya Poncy (Brian) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three beloved grandsons, Quinn and Chase McClurg and Calif Poncy; two sisters, Kayla McClurg of Washington, DC, and Robin Stickler of Centerville; and a host of extended family members and friends. In his youth, Bryan was baptized at the Exline Church of Christ. He started school at the Boston country school, then went to Exline through the sixth grade. A 1970 graduate of Centerville High School, he served as president of the Future Farmers of America. He was also a member and officer of the Exline Ramblers 4-H Club. Bryan was a hard worker, whether in the fields or the factory. Since 1970 he worked at the same site, employed by three companies: Union Carbide, Viskase and Curwood, where he served on the maintenance team until his death. Bryan was a devoted friend to many, eager to help and quick to volunteer. He enjoyed participating in sports, especially baseball, and for four decades coached and umpired Centerville Little League games. He served many years as a member and president of the board of the Little League Association. He also found pleasure in such activities as watching his grandsons play sports, playing pool, getting up wood, hunting, and visiting with friends at the Eagles Club. He will be greatly missed.
