Bonnie Sparks' Obituary
Bonnie Grace Wessel Sparks, 102, of Centerville, departed this life on December 15, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville. Bonnie was born on November 26, 1918 in Cincinnati, Iowa to Jake and Ethel (Davis) Wessel. She grew up in Exline, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1936. Bonnie married George Gordon Sparks on August 13, 1937 and to this union, five children were born. Bonnie retired from the St. Joseph Hospital after 17 years working as a nurse's aide. She grew up attending the Methodist church in Exline before moving to Centerville and then became a member of the Nazarene Church in Moravia and was baptized in the church of Christ by Rev. Dan Smith of Ottumwa. She also attended the Adventist church. Bonnie had many hobbies. She was a faithful member of the 18-80 Club and absolutely loved to travel. She visited the Bahamas and all 50 states except California. She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and cooking and baking for all occasions; but especially for her family. Her family was her pride and joy. Bonnie is survived by her sons: Larry (Barbara) Sparks and John (Rosalee) Sparks and a daughter-in-law, Norma Sparks as well as over 40 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, George and three wonderful children: George Jr., Jerry and Marilyn; sisters: Velma Vivian and Stella Brower and her brothers: Virgil and Noble Wessel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Exline Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday with the family present.
