Bobby Vernon Stocker's Obituary
Bobby Vernon Stocker, age 83, of Centerville, Iowa, and formally a Moravia, Iowa resident, died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born the son of Elvin and Minnie (Irelan) Stocker on July 19, 1926 in Blakesburg, Iowa. He attended the Moravia Schools.He served his country with the United States Army from September 1950 till April 1957 during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to farm in the Moravia, Iowa area. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion in Unionville, Iowa.Bobby is preceded in death by: his father; and brother-in-law: Harold Burton.He is survived by: his mother, Minnie Stocker of Centerville, Iowa; his sisters; Shirley and her husband, Bill Sherwood, of Milo, Iowa, and Helen Lou Burton of Centerville, Iowa; a niece; Kristin and her husband, Tim Toombs of Indianola, Iowa, a nephew; Mark and his wife, Jayne Sherwood of Milo, Iowa, and six great nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the Rev. Joe Hayes officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. Visitation will be held two hours before service at the funeral home.Memorial can be made to the American Legion and can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
