Blanche Sunderman's Obituary
Blanche Sunderman, 96, of Centerville passed away, Friday, October 25, 2013 at her home. Blanche was born on October 16, 1917 in Paris, Iowa to Clark & Ethel (Mentzer) Evers. She married Irving Sunderman on July 8, 1944. Blanche received her education from Coggon High School graduating in 1934. Blanche was a nanny/housekeeper in her early years. She was then employed by Cozy Inn Restaurant and also Tommy's Restaurant in Cedar Rapids. She was also employed by Woolworths Department Store; working at the lunch counter. Blanche enjoyed cooking anything from meals to baking Christmas cookies for her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, she was always excellent at fixing old pillows and bringing them back to life. Blanche was a bit of a talker and spent hours on the phone with Arlo talking about the family and current happenings. She loved working with flowers, especially African Violets. Many people will miss Blanche but none more the "Scruff", the furry family friend. Survivors include; nieces & nephews: Lynette (Carl) Cisler of Centerville, Sharon (Arlo) Hansen of Manchester, IA, Monica Blizek (Terry Barber), Rick (Shelly) Evers, Bob (Becky) Evers, all of Centerville, Patricia Newman of Janesville, WI, Doris Guge of Rowley, IA, 17 great, 18 great-great and 4 great-great-great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were; parents, Clark (Ethel) Evers, husband, Irving Sunderman, brothers: Carl, Oris, Walter and Clark (Jr.) Evers. Visitation will be 3-5 PM, Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, October 28, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Memorials may be given to HCI Care Services - Hospice of Central Iowa.
