Billy Joe Wright Sr.'s Obituary
Billy Joe Wright Sr., age 81, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of the Centerville, Iowa area, passed away Friday, February 07, 2020, surrounded by family.
He was born April 19, 1938 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Roy Wright and Mary (Cooley) Ousley.
Billy did foundry work for over 15 years. He also worked in the brickyard and packing house.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed motorcycles, boxing, breaking horses, and working on cars. As he got older, his true passions became hunting and fishing.
Most importantly, Billy cherished time with his family, especially the great grandchildren! Whether it was hitting the road or a family BBQ. In his last years he stressed the importance of family staying connected.
Billy is survived by his nine children, Tony Wright, Sharron Wright, Marcus (Janet) Wright, Tracey Wright, Jimmy Wright, Billy Joe Wright Jr., Becka (Kaylor) Wright-Calhoun, Stephanie Miller, and Becky (Danny) Scott; his sister, Mary Frances Grady; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Wright and Mary (Cooley) Ousley; two brothers, LaMonte and Harold Wright; two sisters, Hattie Phillips and Helen Tompkins; a grandchild, Phylicia Clark-Wright; and a great grandchild, Thomas Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Allen Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will take place Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family receiving friends from 12-2:30 PM. A memorial has been established to Lateka Wright, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
