Billy Mattly's Obituary
Billy Joe Mattly, son of Tell and Mary Agnes (Foster) Mattly, was born April 26, 1938 at the family farm outside of Promise City. He departed life on March 10, 2013 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour. He was united in marriage to Maxine Rae Barrell on December 20, 1958 in Unionville, Missouri. Three sons were born to this union. Bill liked to fish with his brothers Marty, Verl and Dick. Bill enjoyed his houseplants and would relax for hours watching his tropical fish. He also raised various kinds of birds as a hobby. Early in their marriage Bill and Maxine lived in the Quad Cities, but returned to Seymour where they lived for 41 years. His parents, granddaughter Shelby Kay, step-grandson Zachary, sisters Maxine Storm and Evelyn Wildermuth, and brothers Verl Raymond (Windy), Dick and Bob (Jobie) preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Maxine, sons: Mark Alan (Dana) of Knoxville, Jimmy Dean (Sharon) of Centerville, and Tell Martin Joe of Seymour. Other survivors include grandsons: Scott, Terry, Barry, and Billy Joe Tell (T. J.); step-grandsons Trevor, John and Chase; granddaughters: Penny, Tina, Tonya, Sarah and Heather; step-granddaughters: Sara, Lyn and Sasha; ten great grandchildren; sister Donna Lee Cobb (Albert) of Quincy, Illinois; brothers: Dean (Rose) of Plano and Marty of Seymour: sisters-in-law: Deloris Mattly of Seymour. Nancy Gerdes (John) of Promise City, and Sherry Barrell Kirk (Roy) of Davenport; brothers-in-law: Jim Wildermuth of East Moline, Illinois, Nicholas Barrell (Norena) of Seymour, Bill Barrell (Gloria) of Mt. Joy, and Danny Barrell (Jean) of Coal Hill, Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Special friend Dan of Milan, Missouri, with whom he brought, sold and traded tropical fish, also survives Bill.
