Billy C. Long's Obituary
Billy C. Long, age 80, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Emil and Ava (Linch) Long on July 13, 1926 near Griffinsville, Iowa. He attended a rural school in Appanoose County near North Bend.Billy served his country with the US Navy during WWII from October 7, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 14, 1946. On June 26, 1950, Billy was united in marriage to Mary McGee in Melrose, Iowa. He farmed near Mystic, Iowa and later in the Udell, Iowa area as well as east of Centerville. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization; Appanoose County Fair Board and North Bend Christian Church.He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Sheryl Ryan on May 18, 2006; brother, Darl Long on December 12, 1996.Billy is survived by: his wife, Mary Long of Centerville; sons, Dennis Long and Sharon Tuttle of Udell, Iowa and Jerry Long and his wife, Reta of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Christine O'Donnell of Kirksville, Missouri, Suzanne O'Donnell and her husband, Jerry of Moberly, Missouri and Julie Oden and her husband, Brent of Cincinnati, Iowa; sisters, Doris Hampton of Centerville, Iowa; 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 11:30 am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Ron Will, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial with full military honors by Centerville Area Veterans will follow at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 4, 2006 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 pm.
