Billy Junior Douglas' Obituary
Billy Junior Douglas, age 89 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at his home in Centerville, Iowa.
Billy was born November 19, 1919, the son of William L. and Oda (Hudson) Douglas in Appanoose County, Iowa. He attended Centerville Schools and graduated from Centerville High School in 1936. After graduation, Billy continued his education by attending Centerville Community College. Billy married Mary Jane Kennis on June 1, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville. Upon his college graduation, he and his wife moved to Davenport, Iowa where he began his employment with the Rock Island Arsenal. Billy spent four years working as an accountant with the Arsenal. He then became a welder with the Rock Island Arsenal and spent several years welding until his retirement.
In his spare time, Billy enjoyed spending time with his family. He liked to play cards and loved ""his coffee and doughnuts."" Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville. He was also a member of the Masonic Jackson Lodge # 42 for over fifty years.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Douglas of Centerville, Iowa; three children, Steven William Douglas of Centerville, Iowa, Michael Ray Douglas of Centerville, Iowa, and Rose Marie (Mike) Blackledge of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; a child David Lee Douglas; an aunt Ola Sullivan; two brother-in-laws Jack and Fred Kennis; and a sister-in-law Leona Larson.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. An open visitation will be held Monday from 12-7 PM at the Lange Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
