Billie Richard Moorman's Obituary
Billie Richard Moorman, age 96, of Corydon passed away on March 16, 2023, at the Wayne County Hospital.
Billie was born on March 23, 1926 to parents William Moorman and Ida (Stroud) Moorman at their home west of Seymour, Iowa. He attended school at the one room schoolhouse in Harvard, Iowa. Billie was united in marriage to Betty Barber. To this union sons Dennis and Gary were born.
Billie worked at G B Soap Factory in Corydon, which later moved to the edge of town and became known as Voltmaster. During his spare time, Billie enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working in his yard, and spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids. Billie was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was patient and gentle, never losing his temper. He spent numerous hours in his garage in the 1970s helping his son Gary repair muscle cars during the week so Gary could scoop the loop each weekend with his friends. Engines and transmissions were swapped on a regular basis, with no complaint. More hours were spent in that same garage teaching his grandson Nick how to weld. Billie purchased lawn mowers so his grandsons, Nick and Andy, could make some money in the summers; they mowed and he would do all the trimming for them. Billie was a hard worker. He worked into his 90s, mowing yards for family, friends, and neighbors, helping his son Gary with his rental properties, and running the chipper and raking for his grandson Nick's tree business. Billie enjoyed travelling and seeing new places. They traveled to 30 states over the years with his son Dennis and family, or would travel with his brother-in-law and wife, Rex and Joyce Barber, in their camper converted from an old school bus. Billie attended the Christian Church in Corydon for many years, and in recent years attended the Sanctuary Church in Corydon where he prayed and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his wife Betty, sons Dennis (Ninette) Moorman, Gary (Kathy) Moorman; grandkids Candice (Jeremy) Huss, Nick (Leslie) Moorman, Andy (Brittney) Moorman, Chris Moorman, Megan Moorman, and Matt Moorman; 10 great grandkids; nephew Kenny (Jill) Sharp; and numerous extended family members.
Billie was preceded in death by his parents; Sister Ethel Sharp; and brother-in-law Kenneth Sharp.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home- Corydon with Brian Shelley officiating. Interment will follow the service at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 21, 2023 with the family greeting friends from 11-1PM at the Thomas Funeral Home- Corydon. Memorials have been established at Every Step Hospice, Wayne County First Responders, and Sanctuary Church.
