Bill McDanel's Obituary
William "Bill" McDanel, 96 of Centerville passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 at his home. Bill was born in Mystic to Paul & Muriel (Hurd) McDanel on May 5, 1924. He received his education from Mystic High School, graduating in 1941. He would later earn his Associate of Arts Degree from Centerville Community College. On December 25, 1946, Bill was united in marriage to Lilamae Risher. To this union six children were born: Crecia, Dean, Allen, Terry, Paul and Kim. Bill was employed by Iowa Southern Utilities/Alliant as an Electrician Specialist for over 32 years. He also owned and operated Midwest Meter Service for 31 years. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from July, 1943 through May, 1946. He was honorably discharged as an Electrician's Mate Third Class, working in submarines. Bill was a Mason, and a member of Walnut Lodge #588 in Mystic where he was a past Master three times, Mystic American Legion Post #340, VFW Post #526 in Centerville a member of Drake Avenue Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and a board member. Bill enjoyed time spent with his friends and family and loved BBQ's with them as well. He was a fan of Lawrence Welk music; was proud of the numerous trains he was able to ride and was always ready to play cribbage. Survivors include his children: Crecia Faris (LeRoy), Dean McDanel (Karen), Allen McDanel (Romona), Terry McDanel (Martha), Paul McDanel, Kim Hamilton, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lilamae and a daughter-in-law, Colleen McDanel. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 9-11:00 am at the funeral home.
