Beverly Nadine Wells' Obituary
Beverly Nadine Wells, passed peacefully in her sleep on February 8, 2023 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.
Beverly was the daughter of Archie and Opal (Irvin) Martin, born in Centerville on June 27, 1931. She graduated in 1948 from Numa High School, where she met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Wells. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Numa.
Beverly got the privilege of being a Numa Minerett and played in the Girls State Tournament at Drake Field House against Seymour in 1947. She spoke highly of this honor and experience.
Beverly worked at ISU until she started a family. She did not return to work until 1973, when she took an office position at Union Carbide. In the fall of 1974, she became the District Secretary for Centerville Community Schools, a job she took pride in, and lasted until her retirement in 1994. Beverly decided retirement wasn't for her, so she continued to work for several more years in the offices of Rubbermaid in Centerville and DairiConcepts in Allerton.
In 2018, Tommy's Salon opened an alternative hair room to offer wigs to cancer patients. These patients do not have to pay for their new alternative hair thanks to Strands of Strength. This room is named "Bev's Wig Corner" in her honor, as a cancer survivor.
Left to cherish Beverly's memory are her four children, Barry (Marsha) Wells of Centerville, Tammy (Rick) Boyer of Stanton, Bob (Mary) Wells of Centerville, and Penny (Flint) Salladay of Udell; ten grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; her sister, Betty Wells of Menlo, IA; her sister-in-law, Joan Wells of Prairie City, IA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Wells; her parents, Archie and Opal Martin; two sisters, Blanche Hogg and Doris Hoover; her brother, Archie Martin; and her in-laws, Don and Norine (Barnthouse) Wells.
