Beverly Jean Charley-Wensel's Obituary
Beverly Jean Charley-Wensel gained her heavenly wings on September 18, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Bev was born to Lester and Susie (McKinney) Charley on October 26, 1947 in Pendleton, Oregon. After her school years were complete, Bev worked for many years at Casey's, designing donuts, and at the local hospital in the laundry department. She enjoyed the friendships she made while there, and spoke of them often.
Beverly married Kieth Wensel on November 30, 1995. Through this marriage, Bev gained five adult children. The family made their home in Onawa, Iowa for years before finally settling down in their forever home in Mystic, Iowa.
Bev stayed busy helping Keith in their Ma & Pa Bait Shop in Mystic, and she loved sharing her time with Pa in the garage, drinking coffee with their friends, and swapping stories. She enjoyed cooking, and was famous for making her wonderful banana bread with raisins. Bev cherished weekend visits with her daughters, taking them shopping at the local stores. She and Pa would go on drives to the "bag lady stores," and Bev was always looking to collect one more purse. Bev's pets were her beloved friends, and when she wasn't busy, you could always find her in the house holding her cat, "Tiger," or passing treats back and forth to Pa with their dog, "Freddie."
Bev is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Keith Wensel; five children: Sara (Tony) LeClair, Danial Wensel, Mary (Gale) Frisk, Amy (Doug) Trucke, and Jill Wensel; her siblings: Tommy Charley, Edna Charley, Penny (Randy) Weber, Tina Mason, Perry (Helen) Mason, and Little Bobby Mason; sister-in-law Darlene Lueders; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her mother Susie Mason, father Lester Charley, stepfather Bobby Mason, mother-in-law Collette Wensel, father-in-law Walter Wensel, brothers Douglas Charley and Robert Mason, brother-in-law Ed Carr, and sister-in-law Kris Carr.
Celebration of life service will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow service at the Jones Cemetery in Plano. Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date and condolences can be shared at www.thomasfh.com and www.facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
