Beverley Jordan's Obituary
Beverley Jordan passed away peacefully at her apartment in Centerville Homestead on 25 March 2024 where she had been a resident since September of 2016. Born on 8 November, 1924, in Hallock Minnesota, Beverley grew up on the family farm in the area where her Father served for 50 years as the rural mail carrier. After high school, Beverley moved to Minneapolis where she worked in a wartime industrial plant. There she met and later married the love of her life Kenneth Jordan.
After a number of years living in Florida, St Louis, Chicago and Kansas City, Beverley and her family moved to Centerville in August of 1960. For 29 years the Jordan family operated the Centerville Meat Company which later transitioned into Jordan's Food.
Beverley was an active member of the First Lutheran Church for decades where she participated in the Choir, the Sewing and Quilting group along with providing a host of supportive endeavors for disabled and aging church members. Moreover, Beverley ensured her children attended church and Sunday school on a weekly basis and further ensured their academic training included religious instruction.
Blessed with a pleasant demeanor and likeable personality, Beverley never met a stranger, she was outgoing and extroverted and always willing to take part in efforts to help others, particularly through the church outreach. In addition, she was a very loving Mother who actively supported her children's participation in sports, music and school and social events.
While she dearly loved her boys, Beverley yearned for a daughter and as the boys matured to their teen years, Beverley and Ken were blessed with a baby girl. As the Mother of Phillip, a mentally challenged and handicapped child, she cared for him until her aging years forced her to eventually give way to Centerville Betterment. As her children moved away to follow their ambitions, nothing pleased Beverley more than to have visits from her children along with the grandchildren.
Preceding Beverley in death is husband Kenneth Jordan. Surviving family is Ken and Elisa Jordan, Mililani, Hawaii; Tom and Sher Jordan, Leavenworth, Kansas; Kay and Shane Balsley, Taylors, South Carolina, and Phillip, Centerville, Iowa along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A surviving sister is Beryl Hillier, Peoria, Arizona.
Per her wishes, Beverley has been cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00PM (Noon), Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Jeremy McElvain officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Haines Cemetery on highway 5. A fellowship gathering will be held after the committal. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Jordan Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
