Beulah Eloise Mathes' Obituary
Beulah "Eloise" Mathes, 92 of Exline passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Mercy One - Centerville
Eloise was born to John & Anna Belle (West) Marvin in Coal City, Iowa on January 19, 1931. She attended country school at Hill Town and later in Centerville. On August 28, 1948, Eloise was united in marriage to Lloyd Dain Mathes in Exline. To this union, four children were born: Gary, Kenneth, Karen and Teresa.
Eloise was a member of the Exline Community Church and enjoyed attending Sunday services when her health permitted.Eloise enjoyed needlework, embroidery, word search and a good Western movie. She had a very active sweet tooth and enjoyed sweets whenever she got the chance, especially butterscotch shakes. She always enjoyed a trip to the Amish stores in the area, maybe just to check out their sweet selections. She was very witty and had the most contagious laugh. Above all other enjoyments in her life, Eloise enjoyed spending time with family. She made sure that all babies in her vicinity were cuddled and loved.
Survivors include her children: Gary Mathes, Kenneth Mathes, Karen Vandemark (David), Teresa Kirkland (Darrin), 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, siblings: Virginia "Jenny" Ruth (Vaughn), Diane Bogle (Tom), Roger Marvin (Beck) and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Mathes, grandson, Kenneth "Sonny" Mathes Jr., siblings: Norma Mortensen, Marilene Whicker, Mary Hawkins and Peggy Owens.
Funeral service will 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Hilltown Cemetery. Visitation will take place all day Monday at the funeral home with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to Homestead - Memory Care in Centerville and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
