Beulah Fern Broshar's Obituary
Beulah ""Fern"" Broshar, age 95, of Centerville, Iowa, went to Heaven Monday, April 28, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Blanche Lucille (Bailey) and Earl Clarence Elarton on March 18, 1919 in Harvey, Iowa. Fern graduated from Moulton High School in 1937 and resided in the Appanoose County, Iowa area. Fern was united in marriage on March 28, 1942 to Donald (Max) Broshar at Fort Dix, New Jersey, prior to him deploying to World War II. She taught school for five years while Max was gone to war and she farmed with Max after his return. Fern also operated a dog kennel for many years, helped with the census, was a member of the Pleasant Township school board, a member of Peoples Baptist Church, a member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and sold Avon for nearly 50 years. In addition, she was always crocheting. She touched the lives of many people by making over 100 unique personalized afghans for individuals and organizations and always had a stocking cap or a pair of mittens for anyone who wanted them. She was a very giving person of herself and never knew a stranger. She never forgot a birthday and always had those birthday cards there on time.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Don, Dale, Doyle and Dwight; two sisters, Vera and Ellen; and a son Ronald Max Broshar.
She is survived by her son Robert D. (Bob) Broshar and his wife Maritza Broshar of Centerville, Iowa; Bob's previous wife, Natalie (Lanie) Kesterson of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter Peggy Bradshaw of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Peggy's longtime companion, Joel Gross of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; Peggy's previous husband, Larry Bradshaw of Cassville, Missouri; a brother Duane Elarton and his wife Dorothy of Red Oak Iowa; Dale's wife, Betty Elarton of Centerville, Iowa; Dwight's wife, Dorothy Barrell of Centerville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Danny Bradshaw of Hubbard, Iowa; Nichole (Jeff) Moore of Centerville, Stacey (Andy) Cowan of Kansas City, Missouri; Jonus Bradshaw of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Marla (Kent) Morlan of Moulton, Iowa; Chris (Joni) Broshar of Centerville, Iowa; Cheryl (Jeremy) McMahon of Centerville, Iowa and ten great grandchildren; Alexiss and Kaci Bradshaw; Kelsey and Kaitlyn Moore; Quilan Cowan; Maxwell Bradshaw; Hayden and Clayton Morlan; Caely Lautz and Emma McMahon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Ken Mehrhoff officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Moulton, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 1-8 PM, with the family greeting friends from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Appanoose County VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) or the American Diabetes Association and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
