Betty Poland's Obituary
Betty Poland made her final transition on July 22 at the age of 89. Her life can be described as one of hard work and an attitude of love.
Betty was born on the family farm near St. John, Missouri on March 7, 1926. She graduated from St. John School and Unionville High School. She married Donovan Poland on July 7, 1945, after he returned from serving in WWII. They raised 4 children on the same farm where she grew up, with all the hardships, isolation, hard work, and beauty available there. Betty and Donovan later moved to Unionville, where she worked as a nurse aid at the hospital for a number of years.
Betty was a skilled seamstress and cook, loved to experiment with arts and crafts, enjoyed attending country music concerts, and especially loved holding babies.
She was a member of the Unionville Christian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the genealogical society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Merlyn and Vera Beary; her husband Donovan Poland; her son Dan Poland; and 2 of her sisters -- Bobbie and Mona.
Surviving are her children, Ruth Poland Hoppe, Lance Poland, Frank (and Susie) Poland; grandchildren Preston and Taryn Poland, sister Bertie Hansen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As her nephew, Bruce Hansen expressed so well, ""Your mother was always exceptionally kind and understanding with me.""
Graveside services will be held at Powersville Cemetery, at 11:00 am Saturday, July 25, 2015 with Pastor Gene Weece officiating. A memorial has been established to the St. Johns Cemetery and may be left at Lange Funeral Home or mailed to St. John Cemetery Association, c/o Gary Godfrey, Treasurer, 31907 State Hwy F, Unionville, MO, 63565.
