Betty J. Phillips' Obituary
Betty Phillips, age 85 of Centerville, Iowa died April 1, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Betty was born January 7, 1923, the daughter of Virgil and Fern (Morris) Long in Centerville, Iowa. She married Wilbur Phillips December 24, 1944 at the Nazarene Church in Moravia. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2003. Betty enjoyed quilting, reading, playing the guitar and yodeling. She loved the farm life, which included helping Wilbur with the farm chores. Family and friends could often see Betty on the tractor driving it around the farm. Betty enjoyed traveling to Branson, and she never missed an episode of ""Wheel of Fortune"". She was a member of the Condolence Committee at the First Baptist Church in Centerville and taught Sunday School for several years. Betty was also a Breast Cancer Survivor.
She is survived by two children, Jay (Linda) Phillips and Vicki (Keith) Sherman all of Centerville, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Homer (Barbara) Phillips; grandchildren, Melanie (Jack) Briggs of Albia, Iowa, Sonja (Paul) Hinners of Centerville, Iowa, Matthew (Megan) Phillips of Centerville, Iowa, Tiffany Phillips of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Jonathan (Kelsey) Sherman of Dewitt, Iowa and Erin (Josh) Davis of Ankeny, Iowa; great grandchildren, Zachary Briggs, Hannah Hinners, Gracie Hinners, Jacob Briggs, Kennan Hinners, Lauren Phillips, and Lucinda Davis; a niece, Kay Crabb of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and nephews Kelly Phillips of Syracuse, Indiana, Chris Phillips of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Bruce Phillips of Altoona, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be Thursday with family present from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
