Betty Hiatt Obituary's Obituary
Elizabeth J. 'Betty' Hiatt, 84 of Centerville passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Betty was born in Centerville on October 7, 1925 to Owen & Margaret (White) McConville. She received her education at Centerville High School graduating in 1943. She attended Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa and later attended Marycrest College in Davenport. Betty was united in marriage on July 7, 1947 to Max Hiatt in Centerville at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's, served on the Hospital Auxiliary Board and her Centerville High School Class Reunion Committee. Betty enjoyed attending church, playing bridge at the Country Club, golfing, watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes and time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband Max of Centerville, five children; Jeanne Jacobson(Jake) of Apache Junction, Arizona, Martha Mefferd(Jim) of Chariton, Charles Hiatt(Becky) of Belton, Missouri, Steve Hiatt(Diane) of Exline, Patrick Hiatt(Michelle) of Wentzville, Missouri, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two sisters; Rose Stephens of Centerville, Margaret 'Muggs' Brunk of West Des Moines and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson Travis O'Toole, her parents, two brothers, Owen McConville, Donald McConville and sisters, Kay Cortesio and Mary Ellen Cox and an infant sister. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Schaab C.PP.S officiating. Visitation will be all day Wednesday at Thomas Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
