Betty was born on December 7, 1931 in Sewal, Iowa, to Darwin and Mabel (Ralston) Brown. She graduated from Corydon High School. Betty and Cliff took care of 56 foster children from the late 1950's to the mid 1970's. Some of the foster children had special needs and were specifically placed in their home because of Betty's ability to specialize and implemented innovative techniques to care for infants and children with special needs.
