Betty Maxine Johnson's Obituary
Betty Maxine Johnson, age 87, of Blue Springs, Missouri and a former Centerville, Iowa resident, died Friday, January 6, 2012, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born the daughter of Monte C. and Ida Ray (Ryals) Creekmore on August 11, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa. Betty was raised by her grandparents, Ollie and Maude Ryals due to the death of her mother. She went to the Putnam County High School in Unionville, Missouri. On February 16, 1942, Betty was united in marriage to Thomas Edwin Johnson in Unionville, Missouri. She worked as a Cook for over 16 years at the Putnam County Nursing Home in Unionville and retired in 1995. After moving to Centerville, she enjoyed working in Home Care for folks in Centerville.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Thomas Edwin Johnson on February 27, 1995; and a brother, James 'Jimmy' Creekmore.Betty is survived by: her son, Jerry Johnson and his wife, Mary Ann of Blue Springs, Missouri; a daughter, Phyllis Gilbert of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren, Renee Benson and her husband, Andy of Lincoln, Nebraska, Randy Johnson and his wife, Heidi of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Kimberly Gilbert of Conroe, Texas; six great grandchildren; a cousin, Nellie Dean Ballard of Centerville, Iowa as well as several other cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 am until the time of services with the family present at the funeral home.
