Betty M. James' Obituary
Betty James, age 62, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away May 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
Betty was born August 24, 1946, the daughter of Brownie & LaVera Johnson in Centerville, Iowa. Betty attended Centerville Schools and graduated from Centerville High School in 1964. She furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College in the nursing program and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Betty's first job was the school nurse for Oskaloosa Schools for many years, then co-owned and operated Nursing Homes in Oskaloosa and Albia and then also worked at the Veterans Assistance Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa.
Betty enjoyed doing many things, which included visiting with friends, road tripping, camping, embroidering and swimming. She was a very loving and giving person and was always thinking of others. Family and friends that knew Betty also knew her main enjoyment in life were her four grandchildren whom she referred to as, ""The four men in her life"".
Betty was a member of the Eagles Club of Centerville, Iowa and was a previous member of Daughters of the Nile & Kings Daughters.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Deb Fletcher of Centerville, Iowa, and Wendy (Stu) Stetter of Kirkville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Tyler Fletcher of Centerville, Iowa, Zach Fletcher of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nolan Stetter of Kirkville, Iowa and Carson Stetter of Kirkville, Iowa; one sister, Mary (Jim) Goodman of Centerville, Iowa; nephews Toby Goodman of Centerville, Iowa, Jody Goodman of, Columbia, MO and great nephew Dean Goodman of Columbia, MO and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1-4 PM, Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Exline Community Center. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the family and may be mailed to Stu Stetter 102 3rd Street Kirkville, Iowa 52566. Condolences may be left online at www.thomaslangefuneralhome.com.
