BETTY HOLT's Obituary
Betty Lou Holt, 70, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 03, 2012 at the Wayne County Hospital surrounded by the love of her children. She resided at the Continental Care Center at Seymour for 5 weeks before her death. Betty was a lifelong resident of Wayne County. Betty was born on March 15th, 1941 in Allerton, Iowa, the daughter of Garold F. and Helen (Snodgrass) Clow. She married Duane D. Holt on September 12th, 1959 in Corydon. Betty was raised in Corydon but spent much of her childhood with her grandparents on the Snodgrass farm outside of Allerton. She lived her married life in the Millerton area as a farmer's wife and loving mother to three children, daughter, Brenda Kay (Birkland) and sons, Russell Duane and Brian Douglas. Betty graduated from Corydon High School, class of 1959, and was involved in band and basketball. She was a devoted mother and proud grandmother. Betty loved to watch her grandchildren in their sporting events and attended many school activities. Betty enjoyed gardening and photography. She loved cooking and trying out new recipes. She developed a love for reading and started listening to audio books when her vision became impaired. After her marriage ended, Betty went to Indian Hills Community College to pursue a career in nursing. She worked as a CNA at the Wayne County Hospital and later worked as an LPN at Corydon Nursing and Rehab. Her last job before her illness was working at New Venture Group Home in Corydon. Betty treated the residents there as members of her family. She particularly enjoyed taking the 'kids' of the group home to the movies, often paying for their tickets with her own money. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her father, Garold F. Clow; her mother, Helen (Snodgrass) Miller; her stepfather, GF Miller; and sister, Doris (Clow) Teed. She is survived by her children, Brenda and husband Richard Birkland of Allerton; Russell Holt and girlfriend Marsha Franklin of Princeton, Missouri; and Brian Holt and wife Laura (Farris) of New London, Iowa. Surviving grandchildren are Angela (Birkland) and husband Kenny Banks of Allerton; Douglas Birkland of Corydon; Scott Birkland and wife Tasha (Fincher) of Allerton; Kristen Holt of Sebring Florida; Makenzie Holt and Kari Holt, Corydon; Ashley Holt, Ethan Holt, Danielle Holt, and Brianna Holt, all of New London and five great-grandchildren with 2 more due to arrive in the spring. She is also survived by her brother, Dan Miller and wife Barbara of Dayton, Ohio; stepmother, Ilo Clow of Nixa, Missouri; and many other family members. Betty also had a special, best friend in Helen Slawson. Without Helen's loving care and companionship, Betty would not have been able to stay in her home for as long as she did.
