Betty Marie Griffin's Obituary
Marie Raines Griffin, 88, of Corydon passed away at the Corydon Specialty Care on Monday, December 5, 2016. Marie was born in rural Lucas County on July 24, 1928 to Thomas Alva Raines and Lucy Elzina Swift. She was the youngest of six children. Marie grew up in northern Missouri and went to rural school through the 8th grade. She really wanted to attend high school, but her folks lived too far away. When she moved out of the home, she moved to Corydon. She met her husband Leonard at the rural youth dances. They were married on March 3, 1950. To this union two daughters were born, Donna and Linda. Marie was saved at the Corydon Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health no longer permitted. She enjoyed the women's group and going and helping in the kitchen for all the different events. She especially liked helping with Vacation Bible School and seeing the children. Marie was also a member of the Eden Garden Club and the Jolly Neighbor Club. Marie volunteered at the Corydon Senior Meal site for many years. She assisted the cook in the kitchen and took her job very seriously. It was a rare occasion if she missed working at the site. She met a lady there and they went to many music shows and she would occasionally get up and dance. She enjoyed going on many bus tours, some of which her sister Ruby went with her. Marie also loved having flowers in her garden, all around the outside of her home and inside her home. When Leonard was alive they had a huge garden. Survivors include her daughter: Linda and Roger Polsdofer of Corydon, son-in-law: Warren Holder of Prole, grandchildren: James and Amber Holder, Des Moines, Ryan Polsdofer, Chariton, Paula and Steve Clarkson, Rocklin, CA, and Tyson and Nicole Polsdofer, Allerton, great grandchildren: Wyatt, Oliver, Alivia, Cody, Emily and step-grandson Peyton Lutz and a host of nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her infant sisters Imagene and Inamay, her parents, her husband, her in-laws, her brother Earl, her sisters; Opal and Ruby, her daughter Donna and one grandson Kyle. Marie will be missed by her family and friends, but is now at home and at peace. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Corydon.
