Betty Jean Foster's Obituary
Betty Jean Foster, age 87, of Centerville, Iowa, formerly of Exline, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Caster) Johnson on November 5, 1922 in Appanoose County near Exline, Iowa. Growing up, Betty was a member of the True Blue 4-H Club and a member of the Exline Church of Christ. She graduated from the Exline High School in 1939 at the age of 16 years and then taught school at Leslie and Stansberry until age 18.On January 24, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Glen Foster in Olathe, Kansas. She was a volunteer Red Cross Nurse during WWII and a long-time member of the Royal Neighbors. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Glen Foster; a daughter, Barbara Foster; a brother, Edwin Johnson; two sisters, Elfrieda Bruce and Eloise Johnson.Betty is survived by her: sons, Steve Foster and his wife, Judy of Cincinnati, Iowa, Craig Foster and his wife, Connie of Exline, Iowa and Phil Foster and his wife, Kay of Hallsville, Texas; a daughter, Susan Meeks and her husband Rick of Washington, Iowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also a sister, Dorothy Perkins of Centerville, Iowa.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 4 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Exline Christian Church building fund and can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
