Betty LeNora DeVore's Obituary
Betty LeNora McCoy DeVore, 90, of Newton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. The family will greet family and friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville.
Betty, the first child born of seven children to Guy and Bertha McCoy, was born on March 12, 1931, in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1949. On May 6, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Lawrence DeVore in Newton, Iowa. To this union four children were born.
Betty enjoyed working with her sisters at St. Joseph's Hospital in Centerville as a Certified Nurse Aide. Later, she worked at Skiff Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She worked in ER, on the floor, Nursery/OB and Psych Ward. Betty was an excellent farm wife and enjoyed working along side Lawrence. She loved her family and friends, traveling, sewing, crocheting, and caring for others. Betty was a 4-H Leader, played guitar, gardening three large gardens and canning food. Later in life she enjoyed coloring, puzzles and going to Arby's for Iced Tea.
Left to honor Betty's memory are her children: Yvonne (Jack) Ross, Richard (Eileen) DeVore, Maxine (Randy) Taylor and Rita (Barry) Roberts; sisters, Marilyn Espy, Helen Stevens, LaDonna Arbogast and Carol (Vernon) Clark; brother, Tom (Dana) McCoy; Grandchildren, Kelly (Steve) Cope, Shawn Ross, Shelly Jensen, Jeremy (Brandita) Taylor, Dan (Alicia) DeVore, Tammy (Matt) Davis, Kacie (Bart) Whipps and Derek Roberts; 16 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lawrence DeVore (June 11, 2020); her parents; dear brother, Charles (Chuck) McCoy; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral service for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville.
