Betty Jean Dawson's Obituary
Betty Jean Dawson, age 82, of Centerville, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Shaw) Cornett on June 29, 1931 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville High School in 1949.On December 24, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Ben Dawson in Centerville. She worked for over 10 years for the Centerville Community Betterment at the Group Home here in Centerville. She attended First Baptist Church in Centerville, was the past president of the local Weight Watchers Club and also past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.In death, she joins her parents; a son, Bennie David Dawson on December 18, 1996; brothers, Bob Cornett, Clarence Cornett, Rick Cornett and Jerry Cornett.Betty is survived by: her husband, Ben Dawson of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Cheryl Czaplicki and her husband, Allen of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Diana Staats and her husband, Steve of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sisters, Marjorie Barber of Centerville, Iowa and Judy Yezerski of Blue Grass, Iowa; eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm. Memorials can be made to either the American Legion Auxiliary or to Haines Cemetery and can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
