Betty Caster's Obituary
Betty Caster, age 92, of Moravia, Iowa, passed away, Monday, October 10, 2016 at Mercy Hospitals- Hospice in Iowa City, Iowa.
Betty was born on December 18, 1923 on a farm near Udell, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Iva (Miller) Strunk. She graduated from Moravia High School with the class of 1941. On November 10, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Clifford Wayne Caster at the Miller Baptist Church southeast of Moravia.
Betty was a farm wife and cherished taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Her grandchildren said she was the best at making bread, cinnamon rolls, and even chocolate pie.
She attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia for many years, until Clifford and Betty moved to Plano, Iowa. She then attended Plano Christian Church, where she enjoyed teaching both Sunday Bible School and Vacation Bible School. She later attended the Nazarene Church in Moravia for a couple of years, before relocating to the Iowa City area to be closer to her daughter.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Joni (Mark) Short of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Todd (Andrea) Miltenberger of Fridley, Minnesota, Bethany(Trief) Henze of Ames, Matthew Miltenberger of Marshalltown, Jennifer (Nathan) Eilers of Coralville, Daniel (Mary) Short of Urbandale, and Jessica (Daniel) Hepworth of Murray, Kentucky; five great grandchildren, Ezekiel Miltenberger, Myriam Miltenberger, Violet Eilers, Leighton Eilers, and Alton Hepworth; a son-in-law, Mike (Lisa) Miltenberger of Des Moines; and numerous In-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Iva Strunk; her husband, Clifford Caster; a daughter, Pat Miltenberger; three infant children; and six siblings, Gladys Strunk, Eleanor Burton, Lazelle Strunk, Russell Strunk, Lester Strunk, and Robert Strunk.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. A visitation will take place on Friday, October 14, 2016 with family present from 5:00-7:00PM at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia.
