Betty Ruth Casady's Obituary
Betty Ruth Walter Casady, 94, of Graysville passed away on December 11, 2025, at Northeast Missouri Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
She was born north of Livonia, MO on the family farm November 25, 1931, the eighth child of Mike and Effie (Mock) Walter.
Betty attended Franklin Grade School and graduated from Livonia High School with the class of 1949. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College in the summer and started her teaching career at the Oak Grove School at the age of 17. She taught 13 years in Rural Schools and substituted for 9 years.
On May 21, 1953, she was united in marriage with Calvin Earnest Casady in Unionville, MO. To this union two children were born, Steffany Ann and Scott Earnest.
The family lived in Rock Island and Kirkwood, Illinois and later moved back to Putnam County and bought the family farm. They lived there 51 years. Calvin passed away in 2008 and Betty remained on the farm until 2015. They both loved the country way of life. She also loved raising and tending sheep.
Besides teaching, Betty worked for Shuey Implement Co., collected for the Cancer Fund, was a judge for elections in Elm Township at Martinstown and worked at Hy-Vee Food Stores in Unionville for 19 years.
She lived by: "This is the day which the Lord hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Betty is survived by her son Scott Earnest Casady, grandchildren Douglas (Amanda) Tuder and Elizabeth Tuder, a sister Roberta Stanley and a sister in law Lucille Walter, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, husband, daughter Steffany and son in law, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Raymond, Joe, Tom and an infant. Sisters Edith Klinginsmith, Pauline Parcel and Mary Munden also preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Unionville on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior, 10:00 - 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lone Pine Cemetery and entrusted to Thomas Funeral Home, 709 S 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
