Betty Carey's Obituary
Betty J. Carey, 94 of Centerville passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Mercy One - Centerville. Betty was born to S.E. & L. Irene (Skinner) Carey in Lemoyne, Nebraska on April 5, 1926. Betty met Richard Carey one evening while he was on furlough from the Navy during World War II and was united in marriage 10 days later. The two celebrated more than 53 years of marriage. They lived several places along the Oregon coast and in the Portland area. Betty and Richard did spend a few years Grand Junction, Colorado. The two owned several restaurants, pastry shops and a potato chip factory. Betty had a strong mothering influence on several employees and remained in contact with them in her retirement years. Betty and Richard had no children, but did share a love for many adopted fur babies, they loved animals of all kind. After the death of her husband, Richard on September 26, 1997; Betty moved to Centerville to be close to her sister, Sharon Heien and to help care for their mother. She remained in Centerville until the Lord called her home on Friday, November 20th. Betty was a past member of Orient Baptist Church in Sandy, Oregon; Drake Ave. Christian Church in Centerville and most recently was a member of First Nazarene Church in Centerville. She served in different capacities as well as on the church board at First Nazarene in Centerville. Betty enjoyed a life long letter writing and card sending ministry that blessed and encouraged many. Her greatest love was the Lord, whom she received many years ago. Her testimony of His sustaining care, support and courage in her life was inspiring. Betty was always ready to share about that relationship and that it was also available to anyone who was willing to receive. Betty is survived by a sister, Sharon Heien, nephews: Mark A. Heien (Yuki), Jerry Carey (Kari), nieces: Terry Edwards (Alan), Diane Quinn (David), Stacie Sheets (Tim) and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents and a brother, D. Duane Carey and his wife Barbara and a niece Sue Ann Burrell. Private family funeral service will be held at Thomas Funeral Home at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Family will be present one hour prior to service.
