Bessie E. Mehrhoff's Obituary
Bessie Eleanor Mehrhoff, age 88 of Cincinnati, Iowa died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Golden Age in Centerville, Iowa.
Bessie was born August 6, 1921, the daughter of Lester and Hazel (Darrah) Houser in Putnam County. She married Kenneth W. Mehrhoff Sr. on May 21, 1938. He preceded her in death on Jan 25, 1985. During WWII she worked for the McKee Button Factory and also Spurgeon's on the Centerville square. Bessie worked as a cook for Lakeview and Cincinnati Schools. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Bessie is survived by her son, Ken Mehrhoff Jr. of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Danny Mehrhoff of Centerville, Iowa, Donna (Bob) Clark of Centerville, Iowa, and Debbie (Mike) Milks of Merriam, Kansas; great grandchildren, Brooke (Anthony) Smothers, Brandon (Dena) Clark, Brent Clark, Kaylee Mehrhoff and Sarah Milks; great-great grandchildren, Cambree Smothers and Brynn Clark; siblings, Lesteretta Mathews of Cincinnati, Iowa, and Leola (Boots) Bessie of Cincinnati, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Verba Ross, Thelma Spraks, and Lucille Mathews and daughter -in-law Joyce Mehrhoff.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Lange Funeral Home with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. A visitation will be held Tuesday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church in Cincinnati and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
