Bernard Willis Pister's Obituary
Bernard Willis Pister, age 95 of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Bernard was born on June 17, 1928, the son of William and Ola (McMurry) Pister. He graduated from Promise City High School with the Class of 1945. In 1948, Bernard was united in marriage to Marilyn Arlene Rinehart in Exline, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Sheila, Chrys and Greg.
Bernard worked for the telephone company in almost all capacities from age 17 to age 57. He was a volunteer fireman in Centerville for many years. He loved delivering meals to the elementary schools and visiting with the kids. Bernard was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bernie was fond of dogs, especially German Shepherds and he enjoyed birdwatching. Bernie could always be called upon to help, he was the kindest man you could ever meet. He loved being outside, including gardening, mowing, and general yard-work. Bernie was an amateur photographer, and thoroughly enjoyed developing his own photos. He was also a connoisseur of sweets, and had a deep affection for being silly and telling jokes.
Left to honor Bernard's memory are his son, Greg Pister; his daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Davies and Chrys (George) Bailey; six grandchildren, Jeff (Jill) Crowell, Shane (Christa) Crowell, Wendy (Joe) Williamson, Cresta Meyer (Bill Walsh), Amber Cassady, and Dylan (Mychale) Thomas; 11 great grandchildren; as well as several extended family members.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Pister; his parents, Wiliam and Ola Pister; two brothers; and two sisters.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, June 17, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Larry Bettis officiating. Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery, near Mystic. Visitation will take place Monday, June 17, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10:00-11:00AM.
