Barbara A. Kaster's Obituary
Barbara Kaster, beloved wife of James, and mother of Debbie, Becky, Dennis, and Jimmy passed away peacefully from ALS at her home surrounded by the love and support of her entire family.
She was born January 25, 1940 to Claude and Verna McConnell in Exline, IA. She and James were married on March 31, 1956 and joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006. She lived her whole life in southeastern Iowa including Cincinnati and for the past 36 years on a farm near Moravia. She worked a variety of jobs including Moravia Farm Service while raising her family and farming. She most recently worked for Rain and Hail, and Power Insurance.
She was very active in her community and church helping to run events like the Holiday Fiesta, and Fall Festival dinner as well as serving as Treasurer and Finance Chair for many years. She helped to run the Vacation Bible School and to teach Sunday School along with a complete renovation of the nursery room.
She was an avid cook and her pies were well known and regarded, and brought high values at fundraising auction. Her family dinners were enormous buffets of each person's best loved dishes.
She was an amazing mother and was known as 'Grandma Barbie' to her beloved grandchildren (Kari and husband Barry Camenisch, Morgan and husband Clint Collins, Kris and wife Stephanie McDonald, Kory, Thatcher, Meghann, Tony, Sammy, and Sophie) and great-grandchildren (Jordan, Ava, Cael, Madeline, and Matthew). She hosted many fishing parties, Easter egg hunts, and cookie baking. Many lambs, kitties and dogs were brought in the house to entertain grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are James of the home, Deb and Russ Ferguson, Becky Kaster, Dennis and Collette Kaster, Jim and Kathy Kaster. Donations in her honor should be made to Grace United Methodist Church where they will be used to improve the kitchen facilities.
