Barbara Jeanette Eddy's Obituary
Barbara Jeanette Eddy
Born November 11, 1929, in Exline, Iowa
Died November 11, 2025, in Centerville, Iowa
Barbara Jeanette Eddy lived a full and vibrant 96 years, bookended by the same November day that marked both her arrival and her peaceful departure—a poetic symmetry that would have delighted her.
A proud graduate of Exline High School, Barbara furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College before dedicating decades of her life to shaping young minds as a beloved school teacher at Seymour Community Schools. Generations of students remember her not just for lessons in the classroom, but for the genuine care that made her a favorite among many who passed through her classroom.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Lucile Cline; father, Ogle Cline; brothers, Morgan Cline and Gary Cline; husband, Neal Eddy; and son, Mark Eddy (Deb).
She is survived by her children, Rebecca McGuire (Jim) and Patrick Eddy; grandchildren, Mallory Downs and Chris (Jenna) Eddy; great grandchildren, Mason Downs, Charli Downs, Sawyer Eddy and Krishna Eddy; nieces, Terri (Bob) Zimmerman, Melissa (Greg) Buchanan and Annie Cline; and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss her warmth, wit, and unwavering devotion.
Known for her sweet tooth (candy was always within reach), her “lucky” streaks at the slot machines, and her loyalty to Cyclones and Chiefs football, Barbara approached life with joy and a twinkle in her eye. She was rarely without a book in hand—preferably a good historical romance novel—and famously "not known for a love of cooking," a trait that endeared her even more to those who shared her table.
Her driving, shall we say, had character: backing into things became something of a family legend, told with affection and a chuckle. Through it all, Barbara's greatest love was her family, whom she cherished fiercely and unconditionally.
In a life rich with stories, laughter, and love, Barbara Jeanette Eddy leaves behind a legacy as enduring as the books she adored. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated.
The family would like to thank Barbara’s many caregivers over the years.
