Barbara Jean Davis' Obituary
Barbara Jean (Caraccio) Davis, age 70 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born on July 17, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Antonio ""Tony"" and Annie ""Nanny"" (Miller) Caraccio. Barb was united in marriage on April 2, 1966 to Carl Mac Davis. Later they divorced on May 16, 1973. Barb was baptized on March 6, 1949. Her first communion was May 8, 1949 and her Confirmation was May 17, 1953. All three sacrifices happened at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa.
Barb attended Centerville High School. She worked at the Majestic Theater, Dairy Sweets, Bloomfield Foundry, and Golden Age. Barb and Carl owned a restaurant in Unionville, Missouri called the Unionville CafAC.. Later she worked for her dad at the Smoke Shop on the north side of the square. After her dad's passing Barb and her brother Frank took over ownership. Barb continued the family business for many years until she retired and resided at the home her Grandparents built. Barb loved to play Bingo, do Crosswords, watch TV, and cook for large groups. She also liked to Knit, Embroider, Crochet, Quilting, and Garden. Barb collected porcelain dolls and Bells. Barb's favorite time of the year was Christmas. Her goal every year was to bring the family together for dinner and to see if we could stack the presents high enough to hide the Christmas tree.
Barb is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Doug) Summers, Beverly Caraccio all of Centerville, Iowa, and Melissa Opperman of Altoona, Iowa; two sons, Harold Davis of Centerville, Iowa and Joe (Tabi) Davis of Urbandale, Iowa; she is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Angela (Todd) Sales of Centerville, Iowa, Brandon (Megan) Summers of Des Moines, Iowa, Samantha Summers of Algona, Iowa, Stephanie Summers of Centerville, Iowa, Jason and Bobby Harwell both of Centerville, Iowa, Zachary Opperman of Altoona, Iowa, Jeremy (Heather) Caraccio, Hallie Kirby all of Centerville, Iowa, John (Lindsey) Barber of Moulton, Iowa, Justin and Joshua Simmons both of Centerville, Iowa, Taylor Smith, Ryan and Dillon Davis all of Urbandale, Iowa. Barb is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James ""Jimmy"" (Karen) Caraccio of Clive, Iowa, and Frank (Vickie) Caraccio of Centerville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barb is also survived by her favorite furry companion Lexi, the Black Lab.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; a sister Lucy Katter; and a brother Jack Fry. She was also preceded in death by eight infant siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Fr. Mike Volkmer C.PP.S officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from noon until 8PM at the Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8PM. Following the service burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the Barb Davis Memorial Fund and may be left or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th St, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
