Barbara Ann Cooper's Obituary
Barbara Ann Cooper, 90 of Seymour, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa.
Barbara was born to Harry and Maxine (Sharp) Hudson on September 1, 1932 in Cherokee, Kansas. Barbara graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949 and later went on to get her degree from North West Missouri State University. She married the love of her life, Alfred Cooper, on December 27, 1953 and to this union, 4 children were born; Bruce, David, Jane and Neil.
Barbara was a very loved, special person to many people. She had a unique kindness about her, showing love and compassion toward everyone, no matter who they were. She was good to send cards out to friends, family and acquaintances for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions.
Her first job was a Home Economics teacher and she loved to sew. She started making her own clothes at age 13 on a treadle sewing machine that her grandmother gave her. She made her sister Charlotte's wedding dress. She also loved baking and was very generous with her homemade bread, Chex mix and homemade gifts at Christmas time. The whole family looked forward to her ham balls at family dinners.
She also loved reading mysteries, novels and crossword puzzles. She loved reading about angels and gave many programs about them.
She was very active in the church. She joined the Seymour United Methodist Church in Feb 1956. She was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. She was the church secretary for 25 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, church board, admin council and a lay leader. She was a member of the Seymour Community Club, Seymour Community Center board and was on the Seymour Care Center board. She was an active member of Chapter DM P.E.O. for 66 years.
Barbara is survived by her children, David Cooper (Cindy), Jane Allen (Ronnie), and Neil Cooper. Sister Charlotte Lehnhoff (Larry). Grand-children; Jennifer Trimble (Jake), Paige Myers, Melissa McAninch (Justin), Carissa Cox (Justin), Kevin Allen (Abby), Jason Cooper (Stacie), Erin Holiwell (Brandon). Sister in laws; Joyce Cooper and JoAnn Costello.
She was preceded by her husband Bill Cooper, son Bruce Cooper. Parents Harry and Maxine Hudson. Sister Kathy Darby and infant brother Harry Charles Hudson.
Services for Barbara will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour, Iowa on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be Monday, September 12, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with family members present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorials in Barbara's honor may be given to the Seymour United Methodist Church and Seymour Community Center.
