Avenell Alley's Obituary
Avenell Alley, 93 of Corydon passed away, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Corydon Specialty Care.
Avenell was born on September 3, 1929 in Powersville, Missouri to Arthur & Alice (Hammond) Zimmerman. On April 23, 1952; Avenell was united in marriage to Billy D. Alley in Chariton, Iowa. To this union came one son: Billy Joe Alley.
Avenell was a Post Master for the Sewal Post Office in the early 60's and later employed by McGraw-Edison in Centerville for 10 years in the late 60's - 70's. After her employment in Centerville, she remained at home on the farm, caring for her family. She enjoyed helping her husband on their farm and socializing with people. Of all things that brought her enjoyment, time with her family topped the list.
Survivors include her son, Billy Joe Alley and grandson, Cole Alley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy D. Alley on January 3, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters: Doris Levis, Mildred Parker, Verda Birkland and Alpha Hickerson.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, July 3, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service from 9-11 am. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Shriver Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Sewal Community Center and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
