Ava C. Foster's Obituary
Ava C. Foster, age 94 of Ottumwa, Iowa, died May 29, 2008 at the Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Ottumwa.
Ava was born November 20, 1913 in Appanoose County to Clyde and Zelma (Kaster) McKern. She married Robert Foster on September 19, 1932. He passed away in 1986. Ava worked for Avon Cosmetics for several years. She won several awards during her time with Avon for her sales achievements. Ava also sold numerous commodities for Stanley Household Products. She worked in the field of education for Moravia Schools for eleven years as a teacher's aide. Ava also owned and operated Foster's Dry Goods Store in Moravia.
Ava enjoyed crafts, especially her talent with liquid embroidery. Through her embroidery she made numerous gifts for people, including wedding gifts for her relatives and friends. She also engaged in beadwork through sewing and stitching. Ava loved to travel, including trips to horse races with her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren at Lake Rathbun, horse showing events, and school athletics. Ava was an avid card player, especially her time spent playing rook with family and friends. Ava was famous in Appanoose County for the pies that she would serve at auction sales. She was a member of Taylor Aid, a neighborhood social group consisting of women in the Taylor Township.
Ava is survived by her daughter, Fern (Orman) Lemonds of Ottumwa, Iowa; a son-in-law Al Clark of Centerville, Iowa; two sisters, Josephine (Fred) Kennis of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Jacquetta Morrison of Montezuma, Iowa; seven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Ava was preceded in death by her husband Robert Foster; a daughter Twyla Clark; her parents; three sisters, Hazel Bethel, Pearl Lamantia, and Leah Irvin; and three brothers, Arthur, Jack, and Hoyt McKern.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Main Station Cemetery near Moravia, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3 with the family present from 12 noon until the time of the service.
