Annabelle Wilson's Obituary
Annabelle Wilson, 91, passed away Saturday, August 5th, 2023 in Paducah, Kentucky. Annabelle was born February 6th, 1932, at home near Mystic, Iowa. She was the last of 10 children born to Mearl and Blanche (Miner) Walter.
Annabelle attended Denny and Enon country schools and graduated from Moravia Community School in 1949. After marrying the love of her life, John A. Wilson on June 3, 1951 they lived and farmed in rural Moravia, Iowa. Before having their family, Annabelle worked at Gambles-Skogmo and Centerville National Bank in Centerville, Iowa, and 1st National Bank in Phoenix Arizona. During the war she worked in a factory making tubes for missiles, and Peoples National Bank in Albia, Iowa.
John and Annabelle were blessed with two children: Neal A. Wilson in 1958 and JoAnne Louis in 1960. In 1968 John's work took them to Wisconsin, then Sycamore Illinois where they lived for 44 years. After John's passing, Annabelle moved in 2014 to Paducah,Kentucky to live with her daughter.
Annabelle was an active member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church in Sycamore, Illinois and was a member of the UMW, participating in the Circle Club, the funeral committee, helping with the thrift sale, and UMCOR. She also taught Sunday and Bible School. Annabelle was a member of the Homemakers Extension and volunteered for over 30 years at the hospital as a 'Pink Lady.' Annabelle and John enjoyed the outdoors, spending time on their boat "Jonabel" and traveling with their RV all around the country with the Kiwanis Club and attending quilt shows. Annabelle loved cooking for her family and was famous for her "Nana Burgers," cookies, and homemade noodles. She loved to stay in touch with her friends and family by sending greeting cards and calling them on the telephone.
Annabelle is survived by her daughter, JoAnne (Jeff) Louis and their children Johnny Louis and Jessica (Jake) Kleiner; and 2 great granddaughters Louisa and Audrey Kleiner; brother-in-law James Wilson, sister-in-law, Deanna Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents Mearl and Blanche Walter; husband John Wilson; son Neal Wilson; four brothers, Loren "Bud" (Ardis) Walter, Aubrey "Short" (Ileta) Walter, Maurice "Friz" (Hilda) Walter, Mearl Dean Walter; five sisters, Zola Walter, Oraleta Walter, Maxine (George) Simmons, Elouise (Marvin) Gardner, Carolyn (Sylvan) Van Dorin; brother-in-law Paul Wilson and sister-in-law Charlene Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Grace Methodist Church in Moravia, Iowa. A visitation with family present will be held at the church beginning one hour prior to services from 10am - 11am. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.
