Anna Gertrude Pick's Obituary
Anna Gertrude Pick, age 89, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at her home in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Abraham and Anna (Bass) Ballanger on September 1, 1919 near Iconium, Iowa. She received her education in a rural Adair County Country School in Missouri.On November 25, 1937, Anna was united in marriage to Wendell Pick in Kirksville, Missouri; they were married over 72 years. They lived in Minnesota from 1937 till 1948, then moved to a farm near Cincinnati, Iowa were they worked together for over 53 years. In 2001 they moved into Centerville, Iowa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, Iowa where she taught Sunday school. One Anna's joys, was quilting. She quilted quilts for people in 15 states, each of her family members had a quilt that Anna personally quilted for them.She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Jerry Pick on November 26, 1999; great grandson, Adyen Lemp; brothers, Otis Ballanger, Edgar Ballanger, Albert Ballanger, Emery Ballanger; Aquilla Ballanger and Peter Ballanger; sisters, Ruth McCumber, Opal Henderson, Louetta Houston; and one infancy sibling.Anna is survived by: her husband, Wendell Pick of Centerville, Iowa; daughters, Charlotte and her husband, Bill Miller of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Trenna and her husband, Bill Brown of Russell, Iowa; sons, Robert and his wife, Sandra Pick of Centerville, Iowa, Warren and his wife, Nancy Pick of Sully, Iowa and Allen and his wife, Kathy Pick of Union Grove, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Pick of Centerville, Iowa, a sister, Alzada Ballanger of Seymour, Iowa, and seventeen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow at the Livingston Cemetery southwest of Numa, Iowa.
