Anna Rosella Godfrey's Obituary
Anna Rosella Cooley was born to Aurville B. and Agnes Shibley Cooley on October 21, 1919 in Martinstown, Missouri. At the age of seven, she moved with her family to St. John, Missouri, where she resided until four years after her marriage. She attended the St. John country school and graduated from Unionville, Missouri High School in 1936. Her entire life was lived within 50 miles of her home in Seymour. She lived her last seven years in Oregon with her son, Philip and his wife Cheryl until her passing on April 14, 2016, at the age of 96. She was united in marriage to Garald Robert Godfrey on November 13, 1937. The first four years of their marriage they farmed, then went into the TV business in Seymour, Iowa. They lived in Seymour the rest of their lives together. After moving to Seymour, she worked a few years at Pfiffner's Variety store and then twelve years at Seymour Genoa Telephone Company as a telephone operator until the company converted to dial. She was a lifetime member and Past President of the Order of Eastern Star. She joined the St. John church at an early age, later transferring her membership to the United Methodist Church where she remained a member until her death. She was very active in her church until her health failed her. In 1950 Ann and Garald took into their home a little five year old boy, Philip Gene, whom they dearly loved and adopted. Ann Godfrey was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Garald, her brother Rex and his wife Mary Cooley of Unionville, Missouri, her sister Shelda and her husband Victor Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona, her husband's parents, James and Elsie Godfrey of Powersville, Missouri, and her sister-in-law Allene and her husband Mick McClanahan of Dallas, Texas. Ann Godfrey is survived by her son, Philip and his wife Cheryl Godfrey of Keizer, Oregon and her grand-daughter Michelle Godfrey of Salem, Oregon, her niece Carolyn and husband Leonard Aspegren of Phoenix, Arizona, her niece George Ann and husband Scott Olsen of Phoenix, Arizona.
