Ann Sibbit's Obituary
ELIZABETH ANN MAYO SIBBIT July 16, 1923 - October 22, 2020 On July 16, 1923, Thelma Riley and Harry R. Mayo welcomed their first child into this world. The beautiful bundle of joy was our mother, Elizabeth Ann. Little did they know what their new daughter would accomplish during her life. Mother was born in Mendon, Missouri. She lived a 'city' life with her three brothers. They fought, they worked in their grandmother's store, their dad rented silent movies and projected them onto the side of a building for everyone to see. Mother's family, her grandmother, her Aunt, and her Uncle and their families all lived within a block of each other in the closely knit community. When Mother was a teenager, she moved with her family to Trenton, Missouri. They made their home in a big beautiful house on 13th Court. Mother was very active in high school. Student Council president, pep club, you name it! Mother was a popular and active member of her high school class. After graduation, she attended Trenton Junior College. She didn't know him at the time, but there was a 'country' guy in her class in high school. He attended the University of Missouri, College of Agriculture. Lo and behold, Mother got an invitation to attend a Barn Warmin' at the University. Much to her parent's chagrin, that invitation was the beginning of a lifetime relationship with our Daddy, William Robert Sibbit. They were married on August 30, 1944. Mother quickly (at times, not so quickly) took on the role of a farmer's wife. One time she decided to take her new baby girl on a horse ride down a hill and into the 'bottom'. Ol' Babe decided she wanted to go back to the barn. That 'city girl' put her arms around her little girl and her hands on the saddle horn and away they went at full speed. Mother always told us that Daddy said 'Why didn't you pull up on the reins?' To which Mother replied 'I didn't have enough hands!!!' Oh, well. They made it anyway! Mother and Daddy both continued their education and graduated with Master's Degrees from the University of Missouri. Together they were active in their church. Mother taught school for 25 years, never getting out of elementary school! She was an accomplished artist just like her mother, they traveled together all over the world, they were well known for award winning cutting horses, and more. But she is best known to us as a fabulous Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Great Great Grandma. In addition to raising three daughters, Roberta Ann Chambers (Jim), Donna Kay Hathaway (Tom), and Janet Sue Hoover (Dick), they had a very full and loving life together. The three of us can truthfully say 'We never, ever so much as heard them raise their voices at each other.' You can see Mother's legacy through her grandchildren: Token, Dustria, Jared, David, Marcy, Tara and Monica and her 12 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Daddy loves it in Heaven and he decided it was time to come get Mother. They walked through Heaven's gates together on the evening of October 22, 2020. Just before Daddy passed in 2013 he said to a nurse 'Isn't she the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?' Their love continues.
