Angelina "Angie" Wray's Obituary
Angelina 'Angie' Eva Wray, age 91, of Seymour, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour. She was born the daughter of Frank and Caroline (Lisac) Fishter in Mystic, Iowa on May 29, 1919. They were immigrants from Croatia who settle in Mystic. In her early years, Angie's love of music was nurtured by her beloved stepfather, Tom Margetich. She learned to play the Braatch, a 4-stringed Croation instrument, and joined her family's band. Playing in small towns and around Appanoose County led to her meeting her life partner and husband, Carl (Gene) Wray. They were married on November 5, 1938 in Pekin, Illinois.When Gene went to the Army during WWII, he was sent to the European front. Angie took her infant son to Centerville to be with her parents, while she worked. Angie was always a hard worker, stepping up to do whatever needed to be done. From her vast gardens, chickens, dairy cows and various livestock, she prepared meals for her family and all visitors; enriched by the bounty of baked goods she was so talented at producing. Her 17 grandchildren were often treated to homemade breads, rolls, donuts, pies and her most special Easter bread.In 1960, Gene moved Angie and their five children to Seymour, where Angie continued her gardening, always lining the front of the garden with lovely flowers. Angie shared her cooking talents for 19 years in the dietary department of the Continental Care Center in Seymour, where she also spent the last months of her life. Angie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great grandmother. Angie showed tender loving care to many babies, friends and neighbors. She always rejoiced at the news of a new baby coming into the family, being the head of five generations. She was eagerly expecting two new babies as she left this world on Wednesday morning.Angie was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Gene Wray; a daughter, Patricia Ann Wray; grandson, Charles Wray; a sister, Katherine Eckley and brothers, Frank, Sylvester and Florko Fishter.She is survived by: her children, Larry Wray (Lisa Hildebrant) of Long Grove, Iowa, Linda Hesse (David) of Seymour, Iowa, Carl Wray (Bonnie) of Davenport, Iowa, Nyla Krabbenhoft (Gene) and Clyde Wray (Barb) of Princeton, Illinois; a brother, Tom Margetich of Pekin, Illinois; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.. Many others were taken in as children of her heart, especially Billie Mathes and her family. All will miss her soothing touch, as well as her loving notes and cards.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Gary Forsse officiating. Burial will follow at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. A lunch will be served following the commital services at the American Legion in Seymour, which will be provide by the Assembly of God Church.Memorials can be made to her family and left or mailed to the funeral home.
