Alta Mae McMahon's Obituary
Alta Mae McMahon, age 88, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Thomas and Elsie (Davis) Brinegar on December 5, 1925 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community Schools.Alta Mae served in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services) during World War II and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. She was united in marriage to John McMahon on December 14, 1946 in Centerville, Iowa. She was employed at Union Carbide (which is now Curwood) in Centerville for over 21 years. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, John McMahon in October of 1979; daughter, Joni Stevens; and granddaughters, Trisha Wallerich and Melinda McMahon; sisters, Isal Crowder, Ruby Stansberry, Olive Matherly, Vivian West and Shirley Snelling; brothers, Harold Davis, Robert Brinegar, Raymond Brinegar, Lester Brinegar, Leroy Brinegar, Keith Brinegar and Kenneth Brinegar.Alta Mae is survived by: her son, Roger McMahon of Omaha, Missouri; daughters, Paula Mize of Davenport, Iowa, Pam Jordan and her husband, Gary of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Diana Wallerich of Moulton, Iowa and Cindy Becker of Davenport, Iowa; also a brother, Donald Brinegar of Monroe, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Alta Mae McMahon please visit our Sympathy Store.
