Albert David Woollis' Obituary
Albert David Woollis, age 92, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, Iowa.
David was born in Corydon on May 25, 1932 to Ross and Nellie (Hart) Woollis. He graduated high school from Cambria High School with the class of 1950. He married Florence Sparks on December 18, 1954 and they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2006. To this union two sons were born Gary and Greg.
In his younger years, David and some friends traveled out West to explore, living off of little jobs they would find everywhere they would stop, which included a corn factory, picking up square bales, and other odd jobs along the way. David eventually settled down and became a proud partial owner of Street and Woollis, a retail store in Cambria. Later down the road, the store became Woollis Feed and Gas. Florence would run the store as David was out cutting hedge posts. He had cut thousands of hedge posts, and used them to build many miles of fence for himself and others.
He was a simple an ornery guy who was never mad but always happy, and he loved his Pepsi and candy bars. He enjoyed farming cattle and hogs. David loved being in the timber either cutting wood, or walking around and seeing what he could see. He loved spending quality time with his sons, and later on cherished time with grandkids and great grandkids.
David is survived by his grandchildren, Jamie (Rusty) Petty, Kenda (Rick) Spencer, Jesse (Pam) Woollis and Quinn (Becky) Woollis; great grandchildren, Chase (Malorie), Christy (Carson), Tori (Hunter), Emily, Tyler, Taylor (Kaitie), Grayson, Blaine, Corbin, Khloe, Kinzie and Kennedy; great-great grandchildren, Chasen, Brooks, Nora and Shaddixx; brother, Lyle (Joyce) Woollis; daughter-in-law, Mary Woollis; special nieces Janell (Rick) Boor, Janet (Rick) Ruble and Thelma (Kirk) Welch and other extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence; sons, Gary and Greg Woollis; brother, Merrill Woollis.
Memorial Service for David will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon, Iowa.
